Deft was once an undistinguished middle manager for a large corporation in the throes of downsizing. The pressure of constantly firing people while avoiding being fired lead him to watch lots and lots of professional wrestling. He began to draw parallels between the wrestling storylines and his own struggles, leading to a moment where he saw himself being allegorically fired on TV at the same time that he was being literally fired. He was overwhelmed by a deep understanding of human perception and the universe, blew a mental fuse, and turned into a fount of universal enthusiasm. Eventually, Deft was befriended by [[Ramaj|Ramaj Singh]], who gave him a place to stay in exchange for information<ref name = backstory />.
