History

Born one of the children of Voidmaster, January Frost (which is almost certainly not her birth name) grew up in poverty but aspired to far more, fueling her imagination with books. That changed when her father returned and, taking over her mind, forced her to kill her parents. She escaped him and joined with her siblings to form the Shadow Skimmers. Together, they summoned the mystic tome known as the Player's Handbook from the future, empowering themselves. January gained the power of superhuman Charisma.

Like most of her siblings, January switched back and forth between playing the roles of hero and villain. After finally killing her father, she found a new purpose in life when a brilliant French master thief came to steal one of the mystical artifacts in her possession and wound up stealing her heart. He granted her a joie de vivre she'd never possessed before, and together they committed outrageous crimes. But the law finally caught up with him and he died, leaving her desolate. She stayed a criminal to take revenge, but her heart wasn't in it.

Shortly afterwards, the age of net.heroes began when Lass Lady appeared, and January Frost decided she was a challenge worth taking on. She clashed with Lass Lady as a net.villain, and over time they developed an intimate enemy/friendship. But it was cut short when Lass Lady disappeared in 1950. Not long afterwards she was approached by Ultravac to become one of the founders of W.H.A.T.E.V.E.R.. Rather than playing the net.villain game herself, which no longer held savor for her after Lass Lady's disappearance, she concentrated on helping train younger net.villains and helping them find their true potential.

The greatest of her students was the Waffle Queen, who surpassed all her expectations. But around the turn of the millennium, her former student and her half-brother Pickman Locke betrayed her. In response, she founded Pla.net.ary Investigations to stop their plans to rule the world.

On one expedition, she, along with Pla.net.ary operatives Felix Landers, James Preponderation, and Adam Polcien found a mysterious structure buried beneath Netropolis. After The Killfile fell, that structure burst from the ground, becoming the LNHQ, and as events came together, she was drawn into the formation of the LNH.

Currently, she's one of the top LNHers, relishing the chance to put her skills to the test every day in the game of net.hero versus net.villain and train the next generation of net.heroes as she once had their enemies.

Personality

Mercurial, charming, and above all, charismatic. A master manipulator. During her time as head of Pla.net.ary Investigations, she slowly slipped from "amoral greed" to "true neutral mercenary" to "defends the people and things she cares about" to "oh goddamnit, somehow I've become one of the founding members of the LNH".

Powers and Abilities

Superhuman charisma, giving her the ability to sense and manipulate peoples' emotions. The more willpower they have, or the more deep-seated their emotions are, the harder they are to control; she also has increased difficulty manipulating more than one person at once. As well, has peak human strength, dexterity, constitution, wisdom, and intelligence.

Appearance

A distractingly beautiful brunette woman in a white business suit. As a side-effect of her mystical transformation, she hasn't physically aged since the year 1900.

Relationships

Doc Nostalgia is the Legionnaire who is the most difficult for January to deal with, so she plays along with him by letting him call her "Charisma Lass".

One of the few people she more or less considers a friend is Fearless Leader. She is the only teammate who really understands the depths of his loss. She's had three people she's cared for intensely and lost: her husband-to-be, her enemy and friend Lass Lady, and her best student, the Waffle Queen. Each of these relationships informs her current relationship with Fearless Leader in some way. She's very much in love with him, but can never admit this to anyone, least of all herself – especially because she has a lot of things in her past that she is sure he would not be happy to find out about.

Pantra seems to be the only Legionnaire who can reliably fluster her, despite her attempts to act in a quasi-mentorish role.

Context

She is based on Emma Frost (obviously) and Elijah Snow from Planetary, with some influence from Catalyst Lass and, of course, Jennifer Frost.
