In the Real World, lurking is reading the posts on a discussion board without posting yourself.
In the Looniverse, lurking is the net.ahuman ability of characters like Lurking Girl and Invisible Incendiary to go invisible and/or intangible. Some have tied this ability to the Lurkforce Dimension (AKA the Lurker Zone). Invisible-Intangible-Inaudible Lass's powers/curse may be related, as may the uncertain existences of the Intangible Legion and other LNHers with antimemetic powers.
In the mystical system of the Net.elements, Lurking is the net.element of Darkness.
