In Usenet parlance, a flame is a heated insult; see flamewar.
In the Looniverse, Flame is a dangerous street drug – dangerous not only to the user, but those around them. A synthetic stimulant created by Schwa Khan, Flame hypes up the user's metabolism, producing increased strength and speed as well as feelings of heat and invulnerability to criticism.
Flame users are argumentative and verbally abusive, which is bad enough, but also excrete a flammable chemical through their sweat. If two or more users get in an argument, the air around them fills with fumes, eventually reaching a flashpoint and igniting, burning all in the area severely.
