Sabertooth virus
The sabertooth virus was the titular plot device of Hungry, Hungry Sabertooths!, a virus that temporarily transformed the infected into a sabertooth tiger (Smilodon fatalis).
Created by Doctor Killfile, the virus was unleashed in Net.ropolis and spread across the Loonited States of Ame.rec.a, where government efforts were able to isolate it[1]. The LNHQ entered lockdown, with patrols of Kiwis (who were immune to the virus) taking care of any roaming sabertooths.
Doctor Stomper attempted to cure the virus with superscience, but was stymied by its high level of mutation and variance. However, with the help of the LNH-Readers-Who-Are-Sick-To-Death-With-These-Damn-Neverending-Events-Liberation Front, he embarked on a plan to use the Super Quarantine Field to seal Net.ropolis and cure variants in bulk.
After dealing with the interference of UltraKiwi Wondersock and Simplicity, the virus was stamped out, one city at a time.
Context
The sabertooth virus was a way of engaging narratively and metaphorically with the COVID-19 pandemic in a more comedic and dramatic way than would be possible if it was engaged with literally[2]. (Unlike the sabertooth virus, however, COVID-19 was natural and not engineered.)
