The Cosmic Plot Device

Powers

"No, the Cosmic Plot-Device could

  • counter* its effects if used as the retcon was made, but once it had

taken place, the Plot-Device wouldn't do us much good. It affects the present and the future, not the past.

History

"No one is really sure where the Plot-Device originated from or how it was created. However, in the Dark Ages, a Germanic baron named Krieger founded The Cult of the Cosmic Plot Device after somehow acquiring the Device. In those days, cults were bloody things - they sacrificed humans, practiced sorcery, and kicked puppies. The Cosmic Plot-Device Cult, though, was much less gory than most other cults, and thus gained an almost mainstream following." "The Cult persisted guarding the Plot-Device until 1937. As a part of Hitler's plot for world domination, the Nazis began collecting mystic devices, including the Plot-Device. It vanished before Hitler got his hands on it, and for decades the Cult searched the world for it." "Then, it suddenly resurfaced, and the remnant of the Cult came to me for help.

A few years ago, Dr. Plot had discovered a mysterious device in the centre of one of those crop circles in Eng.lan.d. He declared it to be undeniable evidence of extra-terrestrial intelligence and had it shipped to Net.ropolis for further study. Dubbed "The Cosmic Plot Device", it was recently placed on display in the Net.ional Museum of History. Lagneto didn't think The Cosmic Plot Device was extra-terrestrial in origin, however. He suspected that the device had actually been sent back from the future. In the future, he believed, mutants had come to dominate ordinary humans, as natural selection would demand. The device would therefore only work when handled by a mutant such as himself and would feed off of the user's mutant power. That would explain why scientists in Net.ropolis, tried as they might, were unable to get the device to work: it simply wasn't designed with ordinary humans in mind.

Either way, in the early '90s, the Device ended up on display at the Net.ional Museum of History, where it was promptly stolen by multiple net.villains. First, General Jarrek took it, intending to open the pan-reality nexus within LNHQ and create a beachhead thru which the Dorfian Empire could conquer the Loonivearth. Captain LNH and a ragtag team of net.heroes stopped him, but at a cost. Then, after it was returned to the Museum, Lagneto stole it, using its power to capture Asteroid L and set it in orbit around the Loonivearth.

In turn, Table and his Brotherhood of Net.Villains stole it from him,
