The Book of Deus ex Machinas was an ancient magical tome of fearsome power and corruptive influence.

It first showed up in Net.ropolis in 1956. The battle over the Book drew together enormous numbers of magical beings, including the Classics Squad and the original Occultism Kid. At the end of that conflict, it was seemingly destroyed...

...but when the Bryttle Brothers attacked during Beige Noon, a team of trenchcoaters used the power of Four-Color Kid's sacrifice to seal them inside the Book.
